As part of the Renewable Energies in Rural Markets Project (Permer), the Argentine governments Energy Secretariat calls for tenders to energize the Salta Window to the Universe Astronomical Complex, in the province of Salta, and the town of Paloma Yaco, inhabited by families from the Diaguita community, in Catamarca.
The call for tenders, which has a presentation deadline of next August 16, is entitled "Construction works and initial operation of two photovoltaic generation plants with accumulation in the provinces of Salta and Catamarca", and contemplates, within the framework Permer , provide renewable electricity to the astronomical observation facilities and instruments of the LLAMA and QUBIC projects (for its acronym in English: Q and U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology), in Alto Los Chorrillos, San Antonio de Los Cobres, province of jump; and also to the Catamarcan town of Paloma Yaco, which has 12 homes, a primary and secondary school, and other public and communal institutions inhabited by members of the original Diaguita community.
The Salta Window to the Universe Astronomical Complex is an initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the provincial government of Salta. Also participating in the project are the National Commission for Space Activities (CONAE), the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), the National Communications Entity (Enacom), the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) and the National University of Salta. , among other Argentine institutions.
It is explained in a statement that “QUBIC is a collaborative cosmology project between scientific institutions in Italy, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States and Argentina for the study of the first moments after the birth of the universe; while LLAMA is a radio telescope to investigate the evolution of stars and black holes in distant galaxies, the result of a joint scientific undertaking between Argentina and Brazil”. |
