Work Detail US company New Use Energy Solutions has launched a new line of portable photovoltaic systems built with module technology based on Sunpower solar cells. Modules mount to the system via a custom vinyl tarp. Arizona-based New Use Energy Solutions has introduced SunTarp, a new line of portable frameless photovoltaic panels for residential and off-grid applications. “We have found that adhering multiple modules to a custom vinyl banner allows the user to reconfigure module strings to accommodate 12V, 24V and 48V off-grid systems, all the way up to residential-type inverters that require more than 120Vdc to charge the batteries. batteries,” the companys director of operations, Lee Feliciano , told pv magazine . “Our module supplier is the American company Merlin Solar,” he added. The flexible modules supplied by Merlin Solar are based on monocrystalline solar cells with an efficiency greater than 25% provided by the American manufacturer Sunpower. Its power ranges between 50 and 150 W and its weight ranges between 1.2 and 2.68 kg. Its open circuit voltage ranges from 20.8 to 21.1 V and the short circuit current is from 3.12 to 9.10 A. The modules can be bent up to a maximum arc of 30 degrees and can be fixed by adhesive or grommets. The junction box is sealed and waterproof. Panel holes are pre-drilled for quick mounting. The New Use Energy Solutions photovoltaic array is available in three versions: the TriFold SunTarp array, which combines three solar modules, weighs 6.8 kg and has a power of 210 W; the 320 W FourFold SunTarp model, which integrates four panels and weighs 10.8 kg; and the six-module HexFold SunTarp, which is rated at 410W and weighs 20.4kg. "They are easily stored even in the trunk of compact cars, and we can expand them to create larger arrays," said the companys CEO, Paul Shmotolokha. "Our modules are 30% lighter than traditional monocrystalline solar panels and are easy to fold, transport and store." According to the companys website, the TriFold SunTarp set retails for $906.53, while the FourFold SunTarp and HexFold SunTarp are priced at $1,318.45 and $1,806.13, respectively. “They provide much more power than the tiny panel kits that small portable plants provide,” says Feliciano.
