Work Detail The grant, nearly UD$25 million, was facilitated through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Ghana and Japan have sealed a grant facility to build phase two of the Tema Motorway Roundabout in the capital Accra. The grant, nearly UD$25 million, was facilitated through the Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA, according to Ghana media. The project involves a composite bridge structure as well as a third-tier flyover. JFE Engineering will take on the composite bridge, ancillary road and ramp works covering an area of 1.75km. Other works include the construction of drainage and safety facilities such as crash barriers and road signs and the installation of streetlights. Construction is expected to be completed in November 2024. "When completed, this project will make it easier to clear goods quickly at the TemaHarbour, end traffic jams at the Tema roundabout, and improve trade integration and economic growth in the ECOWAS sub-region," said Kwasi Amoako-Attah, minister for highways. The existing roundabout opened 2017 and is part of the 19km Tema Motorway – the country’s only motorway - that links Tema to the capital Accra. Work recently started on a new highway stretch in Ghana, part of a 168km route that will link Tatale and Tamale.
