The Ministry of Public Space and Urban Hygiene began a process of enhancing the value of the Historic Center of the City to highlight its architecture and historical value through a comprehensive plan, which will connect Plaza de Mayo with Parque Lezama on a pedestrian basis and add new points of interest for porteños, porteñas and tourists.
The plan consists of enhancing, with different degrees of intervention, the polygon made up of Av. Juan de Garay, Av. de Mayo, Av. Paseo Colón, Av. San Juan, Av. Independencia, Defensa, Balcarce and Piedras streets. . More than 75,000 m2 of public space and 60 blocks in total will be intervened, which will increase pedestrian mobility and generate a passable and enjoyable environment.
The works include the leveling of roads, recovery of sidewalks and historical facades of the City, the placement of new lights, bollards and cobblestones to improve pedestrian safety and the planting of new trees and vines. These interventions will be carried out at different times (2021- 2023), are one of the Government Commitments and will benefit more than 36,000 people.
Otto Wulff Facade: The intervention consists of the restoration and enhancement of the building, which has great heritage value. Located at the intersection of Belgrano Avenue and Peru Street (Belgrano 601) in the Monserrat neighborhood. The works include painting and restoration work, replacement of ornamental elements and lighting of the façade through the incorporation of new lights.
Facade Restoration of the San Telmo Market and lighting reinforcement: This work covers Humberto I, Carlos Calvo and Estados Unidos streets (between Peru and Defense).
Bolívar I, II and III (between Av. Belgrano and Av. Juan de Garay):
? Bolívar I (between Av. Independencia and Humberto I) The works include leveling the blocks, incorporating historic lampposts and new bollards, new cobblestones, santa ritas and gastronomic decks on Carlos Calvo, between Bolívar and Defensa.
? Bolívar II (between Humberto Primo and Av. Juan de Garay): The tasks include leveling the blocks, incorporating historic lampposts and new bollards, repairing the sidewalks with tiles on Bolívar and around Plaza Dorrego, new cobblestones and santa ritas.
? Bolívar III (between Av. Belgrano and Av. Independencia): The works add leveling of blocks on Bolívar between Av. Belgrano and Av. Independencia, incorporation of historic lampposts and new bollards, repair of the sidewalks and santa ritas.
Comprehensive renovation on Humberto I, Carlos Calvo and the United States (between Peru and Defense):

PROJECTS 2023
Chacabuco (between Av. Juan de Garay and Av. Belgrano): The works include leveling Chacabuco blocks between Av. Juan de Garay and Av. Belgrano, widening sidewalks, pedestrian lighting, vines and new trees.
Chile (between Defense and Peru): The tasks include renovation of blocks in Chile, between Defense and Peru, repair of sidewalks, new pedestrian lighting through lampposts, execution of planters and incorporation of vines.
Peru, between Av. Belgrano and Av. San Juan:
Between Av. Independencia and Av. San Juan: The works include widening of sidewalks, incorporation of new lampposts, installation of urban furniture and planting of Santa Ritas.
Between Av. Belgrano and Av. Independencia: The works include widening and repairing sidewalks, planting vines and incorporating new streetlights.
Venezuela + Mexico (between Peru and Paseo Colón): The tasks include integral maintenance of blocks on Venezuela and Mexico, between Peru and Av. Paseo Colón, repaving on Venezuela and México, between Perú and Av. Paseo Colón, renovation of sidewalks, repair of ramps, incorporation of pedestrian lighting through lampposts, planters and Santa Rita vines, and repaving of blocks on Venezuela and Mexico streets, between Peru and Paseo Colón.
Balcarce, between Av. Independencia and Alsina: The works include leveling Balcarce (between Moreno and Alsina), Moreno (between Defensa and Balcarce) and Alsina (between Defensa and Balcarce) streets, repairing sidewalks, new ramps, incorporating lighting pedestrian through lampposts, planters and incorporation of Santa Rita vines and the Balcarce section, between Av. Independencia and Av. Belgrano, will be repaved.
Patrimonial Facades – Surroundings Plaza Dorrego and Bar El Federal: Enhancement of buildings in the surroundings of emblematic sites, complementing the works in public space and enhancing the urban landscape. It includes cleaning tasks, treatment of biological proliferation, treatment of carpentry and restoration of artistic ironwork, recovery of finishes and replacement of lost ornamental elements and treatment and conservation of existing ones and incorporation of lighting fixtures.
? Facades of Plaza Dorrego: The works include: restoration of Defensa 1098 and Bethlem 42 and lighting of Defensa 1102 and 1105.
San Lorenzo Passage + Giuffra Passage + Chile (between Defense and Balcarce) + Balcarce (between Mexico and Chile): The tasks include the repair of sidewalks, new ramps, the incorporation of pedestrian lighting through lampposts, the execution of planters and the provision and incorporation of santa rita vines.
WHAT WAS DONE IN 2021
Defense Street Tourist Axis, between Hipólito Yrigoyen and Moreno: The project consists of enhancing the surroundings of the City Museum. The interventions are carried out on Defensa Street, between A. Alsina and Moreno, and in front of the Plazoleta San Francisco:
? More than 2,000 m2 of public space intervened: 2,240 m2 of public space surrounding the Museum of the City, on Defensa street, between A. Alsina and Moreno, and in front of the Plazoleta San Francisco.
? Leveling of more than 1,000 m2 of roadway: One block of Defensa street between Hipólito Yrigoyen and Adolfo Alsina was intervened by placing new cobblestones.
? Incorporation of 300 m2 of new sidewalks: The sidewalk on Defense (both hands) was widened and repaired with the incorporation of new tiles. It was pedestrianized, but without changing its current morphology.
? Addition of 102 new bollards: Bollards (bullet type) will be placed over the existing curb line to improve pedestrian safety.
? Greater lighting in the environment: 4 new historic streetlights will be incorporated and the 10 existing historic streetlights will be enhanced to generate a fully illuminated environment.
? New gratings are placed on the sidewalks to improve the pluvial drainage system and thus ensure that the water drains internally in a fluid manner.
Conservation of the “De La Estrella” façade: The project consisted of the restoration and illumination of the façade and lighting of the “De la Estrella” pharmacy, the oldest pharmacy in Buenos Aires, located in the historic neighborhood of San Telmo ( Defense and Alsina corner):
? Recovery of the original material of the facade: The facade of the pharmacy was intervened by removing the exterior paint to see the state of the original material that is underneath and that was covered by the paint in previous renovations. Then, that original material was manually replaced on the façade. Prior to this, a general deep cleaning of the entire facade was carried out (with a hydrowashing machine, the exterior of the pharmacy was washed. This machine allows to regulate the water pressure and protect the fundamental parts of the original facade that are in good state).
? Restoration of the pharmacys marbles: All the pharmacys marbles were valued. These are the ones on the access steps (both on the corner of Calle Alsina and Calle Defensa) and in the pharmacy windows.
? Trimming of vegetation on the facade: Plants grown on the facade were trimmed (may be due to humidity and presence of water) that produce breaks on the exterior of the facade. This process is called invasive vegetation treatment.
? Restoration of canopies: 2 canopies located in Defensa and Alsina were renewed, the bars of each window and its glass.
? Installation of new awnings: The 7 current awnings were replaced by 7 new ones in micro-perforated canvas (more resistant material in the long term).
? Better Lighting: 7 LED luminaires were installed in the balcony area of ??the façade (on Defense and Alsina).
? More than 500 m2 of renovated public space: The sidewalks of the façade on Defense and Alsina were repaired.
