An association between the Chinese company Gotion High-Tech and the local Grupo Iraola will set up a lithium battery manufacturing plant in the province of Santa Fe, according to Argentine President Alberto Fernández.
In a meeting between the Argentine president Alberto Fernández, the Minister of Productive Development, Daniel Scioli, the executive director of the Chinese company Gotion High Tech, Li Zhen, and the president of the Iraola Group, Leandro Iraola, the latter announced the creation in the locality Venado Tuerto, province of Santa Fe, from a lithium battery factory for cars, buses and bicycles.
It is estimated that in principle there will be an investment of 12 million dollars to build the announced facilities of 5,000 m2, in reality an extension of one of the two plants that the Iraola Group already operates there, dedicated to the manufacture of shock absorbers and another of motors and motorcycles.
An important piece of information is that Gotion reported that the lithium will come from its lithium exploitation projects in Jujuy , while the production of batteries will also be exported. The Chinese-owned firm is headquartered in Freemont, United States, the country where it operates, in addition to Germany, Japan and Singapore.
According to data from the Argentine government, the country is the worlds fourth largest producer of lithium, after Australia, Chile and China, with exports exceeding 100 million dollars annually since 2016, more than 27 thousand tons in 2021 alone. |
