To reach 20% of renewable generation in 2025, the Government seeks to promote the development of regional electricity markets that expand the available power through renewable energy generation projects in each of the provinces. Some 64 potential projects are estimated with the capacity to generate a total of 986 MW, which will improve the provision, price and reliability of the service.
According to its website, the Undersecretary of Electric Energy of Argentina seeks to promote regulations so that local projects improve the provision of electric energy, both in price and reliability, and promote an articulation that benefits the provincial and regional frameworks.
In this sense, the decision to promote the development of regional electricity markets so that the generation of renewable sources is used in the same area in which it is generated is highlighted. Some 64 potential projects are estimated with the capacity to generate a total of 986 MW, which will improve the provision, price and reliability of the service.
Manifestations of Interest
As a first step towards the realization of the markets, a call has been implemented, valid until June 30, for Expressions of Interest (MDI) to develop small-scale infrastructure projects that contribute to incorporating renewable generation, or storage facilities in the network to reduce or eliminate restrictions on supply and/or generation with diesel.
The MDIs will make it possible to map the potential of the different regions of the country and identify the network nodes in which it is appropriate to incorporate this energy, they will be a tool that will guide potential bidders and a basis for a subsequent tender.
At the same time, it seeks to achieve a geographical dispersion of the enterprises and take advantage of the countrys potential in the matter, and at the same time encourage the incorporation of renewable generation to reach the goal of 20% participation in consumption in 2025.
Distributors
As part of the same strategy, progress will also be made in the authorization of distribution contracts for its large users and, thirdly, the possibility of carrying out renewable projects with provincial generation companies. In this aspect, it stands out that they have the obligation to meet the goals of electricity consumption with renewable energy.
“Currently there are some 3,438 Large Distributor Demands (GUDIs) without the possibility of signing contracts and with an annual demand of 13,016GWh/year. For them, the implementation of a new type of contract was evaluated where the distributor could group all of these GUDIs users on their behalf. In these cases, the contract will be freely agreed between the parties (energy, duration, price) and limited to the amount of GUDI energy declared by the corresponding distributor”, they indicate from the Energy Secretariat. |
