Work Detail Under the Energy Compact agreement, Enel and the Santiago government will also boost the final use of electricity for public transport and heating: there will only be electric buses in the city by 2030. The government of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago de Chile and the energy multinational Enel have announced a partnership to promote solar energy and the final use of electricity for public transport and heating, facilitated by the United Nations in the framework of its new Action Network of the Energy Pact that has just been launched. The Universidad del Desarrollo in Santiago also pledged to support the association. According to the latest available figures (2018), 41% of the citys greenhouse gas emissions come from land transport and 32% from the burning of fuels to generate electricity and heat sources. Based on the Energy Compact agreement, the partners agree to increase the share of solar energy in electricity generation in the Metropolitan Region through urban distributed energy projects. The partners also commit to increasing the share of electric buses in the city to 100% by 2030, from the current 26%, and expanding the network of charging stations for electric vehicles, both public and private. In addition, they commit to accelerate the replacement of wood heaters in residential, commercial and government buildings with electric heating systems, going from 10,000 replacements made by Enel to date, to more than 60,000 by 2030. National and municipal governments, companies, foundations and civil society organizations have announced more than 200 Energy Pacts, committing more than 600 billion pesos (702 million dollars) in investment and financing, in relation to the Dialogue United Nations High-Level Conference on Energy in September 2021. The Energy Pact Action Network aims to connect governments that need financial and technical support to achieve their goals related to the Energy Pact, with companies and donors that have committed to increasing energy investments and financing.
