Work Detail | Of the 65 buses sanctioned for Shivamogga city under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for intra-city public transportation, 20 buses will commence service from August 29, K.B. Prasanna Kumar, MLA for Shivamogga, has said. Of the 20 buses, 10 are standard buses and the remaining are mini-buses, the MLA told presspersons here on Saturday. According to the route schedule announced by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), the buses will ply along Kashipur-Malavagoppa, Gopala Gowda Extension-Ragigudda, and Railway Terminal-Ashoka Circle-Circuit House Circle routes in the initial phase, Mr. Kumar said. Minister for Revenue Kagodu Thimmappa will flag-off the buses at a programme that will be held in the city at 10 a.m., he added. KSRTC will press for service on other routes based on the demand, he said. KSRTC will distribute passes for students and public. “The remaining 45 buses sanctioned under JNNURM will also arrive soon,” he said. Mr. Kumar said that the buses are fitted with automatic voice announcement system and electronic display board to provide information for the passengers on the route and the designated stops. In addition to this, surveillance cameras are also installed in the buses. New depot The work of construction of a new depot for the buses sanctioned under JNNURM near Santekadur on the outskirts of the city will commence soon. He said that a new terminal for buses offering intra-city services will be constructed at the land owned by the Shivamogga City Corporation near Ashoka Circle. Renovation Mr. Kumar said that the State government has released Rs. 25 lakh for renovation of the Nehru Stadium in the city. The work of repairing the ceiling that was leaking will be taken up with the amount. Minister of State for Youth Empowerment and Sports Pramod Madhwaraj will visit the city on September 1 to initiate the work. Mr. Madhwaraj will also inaugurate the indoor badminton court constructed at Ashoka Nagar in the city at a cost of Rs. 34 lakh, he said. Chairman of Shivamogga Urban Development Authority N. Ramesh and member of Shivamogga City Corporation P.V. Vishwanath were present. |
