Work Detail Prysmian completes the North Sea Link, the worlds longest subsea electricity interconnector between the UK and Norway to share renewable energy. In addition, it buys land in the US for a new submarine cable factory. In 2015, the Norwegian system operator Statnett and UK-based National Grid awarded the global group Prysmian Group, with more than 140 years of research and development of telecommunication and energy cable systems, a project €550 million to complete North Sea Link Lots 2 and 3, equivalent to approximately 950 km of submarine HVDC cables (1400 MW, ± 525 kV), manufactured at Prysmians Arco Felice factory in Naples and installed in the North Sea on a 720 km route. In October 2020, Prysmian received the certificate that marks the conclusion of the installation work, according to a Cocesa press release, part of the Prysmian Group in Chile. With the successful execution of the transition joints between the Prysmian and Nexans cables in the second quarter of 2021, the test and commissioning phase began as planned in the fourth quarter of 2021 and was successfully concluded. Upon completion of commissioning operations and delivery of construction documentation, Prysmian says it received the certificate of completion on February 14, 2022, one month before the contractual milestone. North Sea Link enables renewable energy sharing between the two countries for the first time, they say, supporting them in their goal of zero emissions. A new Prysmian submarine cable plant in the US In addition, Prysmian and CDC (Commercial Development Company) also announce the completion of the purchase of land in Brayton Point (Massachusetts), for the installation of a new submarine cable manufacturing plant. Prysmian Group, a world leader in the energy and telecommunications cable systems industry, is advancing with its project for a new submarine power cable plant in the United States and together with CDC (Commercial Development Company) announce the signing of the contract for the purchase by Prysmian of the land located in Brayton Point (Massachusetts), the former site of the Somerset coal plant. The final acquisition of the site is subject to obtaining state permits for the construction of the new plant, which represents a total investment of about 200 million dollars, according to Prysmian. Hakan Ozmen, Executive Vice President of Business Projects at Prysmian Group, indicates that the new plant will allow them to achieve “the goal of installing 30 GW of new capacity by 2030 under the Biden Plan”.
