The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications announced the results of the tender that will allow renewing public transport with 991 electric buses and 649 ecological ones. And, as reported on the website, Copec, hand in hand with the operators STP and Metropol, will build 10 of the 13 new electrical terminals and will supply the energy for 80 percent of the new fleet.
All of the electroterminals will be built in Santiago and contemplate an approximate investment of US$30 million to strengthen the operation of public transport and the network. The award of service unit 1 includes the routes between Pudahuel, Huechuraba, Conchalí and Independencia; service unit 2 is focused on serving the routes that go to the center of the capital and the eastern area of ??Santiago, and, meanwhile, for unit 3 and 5, coverage goes from the south of the Metropolitan Region to the districts of La Queen and Ñuñoa.
The new terminals and electric fleet will come into operation in June 2022, with 1,700 electric buses for public transport.
The new electroterminals will have 197 Copec Voltex fast chargers, making the company the largest supplier of energy for electric buses in Chile. “ Last December we inaugurated the El Conquistador electrical terminal, the largest in South America, and today , together with STP and Metropol, we were awarded 10 of the 13 new terminals for the Metropolitan Region”, said Leonardo Ljubetic, Manager of Development and Management of Copec .
“ To the 215 buses put into service in 2020, we will add another 800, only in the Metropolitan Region. In total, we are going to energize more than 1,000 electric buses in Greater Santiago, this is about 60% of the transport of this type in the entire Metropolitan Region ” , said the executive.
The tender for the "Use of roads" awarded by the operators STP (Personal Transport Service) and METROPOL, obtained 10 of 13 electroterminals with Copec Voltex as a strategic partner with the aim of incorporating clean energy into the system. Copec Voltex will be in charge of the design, engineering, construction, maintenance, load management software and 100% renewable energy supply. |
