The robot, designed by Boston Dynamics, comes to retire some drones that Acciona used to monitor from the air the solar modules of the Usya photovoltaic plant, in the Atacama desert.
Its called Spot. It is the mascot acquired by Acciona to monitor and guarantee the proper functioning of the 138,200 panels that the Usya plant has, in the Atacama desert.
With the robotic pet, the drones used in these tasks have been replaced. While the maximum payload of a drone can be about five kilos, says Carlos Crespo, head of Accionas robotics and artificial intelligence group, Spot can carry almost 15 kilos. And while the drones move faster than Spot, their batteries typically last only 20 to 30 minutes of autonomous operation, compared to Spots 90 minutes.
The robot dog, which has a built-in thermal vision system, generates thermographic reports on the status of the different components, as it walks between the panels following a previously programmed route, as shown in the video that the company has uploaded to your Twitter account.
Boston Dynamics, the American mother company of the creature, put its first puppy up for sale in June 2020 at a price of $74,500.
Spot is used by various industries for a wide variety of applications, according to Boston Dynamics on its website.
Acciona chose the quadruped robot to incorporate it into its workflows in 2019. In the first instance, Spot was used to inspect the construction works of active infrastructure tunnels, according to the American company on its website. |
