Work Detail More than 50 sheep make it possible to maintain the land of the solar plants located in the Maule and Ñuble region, in Chile. Enel Green Power Chile, the local headquarters of the Italian multinational, together with the Chilean headquarters of the Spanish IM2 Solar, began to apply the solar grazing method permanently, as a natural grass maintenance system, in two of its photovoltaic projects in operation, out of a total of 10 currently under development, which are part of an agreement signed by both companies and which will reach a total of 76 MW of renewable installed power. The first photovoltaic plants that will implement this methodology are Dadinco, located in the Ñuble region; and San Camilo, located in the Maule region. Thus, more than 50 sheep will graze freely in each one to control the growth of the grass. I M2 Solar Chile, through its company Greentech Solutions, already uses “solar grazing” in some of its plants , such as Ciprés Solar and Granada Solar, located in the commune of Linares, Maule region (Chile). In these plants, it uses 278 free sheep, in charge of controlling the growth of vegetation among the more than 62 thousand solar panels panels that add up to more than 22 MW built with around 60 hectares. “Thanks to sheep action, it is possible to limit the growth of grasses that can affect the proper functioning and performance of solar panels, avoiding shadows and preventing possible fires due to dry plant matter,” they explain from IM2 Solar. In addition, the use of traditional mechanical lawnmowers, which mostly use fossil fuels, is eliminated. The IM2 Solar Group also has three companies that are complementary, Greentech, Solargia and Turbo Energy, which are dedicated to the maintenance and washing of the plants. They are entering the Latin American markets of Colombia, Peru, Argentina and Bolivia.
