Great Ormond Street hospital trust is beginning the search for a design team and contractor to deliver phase four of its development masterplan. Initial estimates have costed the 240,000 sq ft project at around £190m. A team to take the project forward will be appointed in May 2017, with site work programmed to start in early 2019 for project completion in 2022. The project is to be procured through a design competition with main contractor and designer teams and will deliver 100 beds, outpatient rooms, radiology suites, a new school, activity centre, office space and a roof garden. As well as providing much-needed additional clinical space and improving campus circulation, construction of the new building is being seen as a great opportunity to present a less institutional facade to visitors. The development plan has proved successful territory for Skanska in recent years. Skanska is presently finishing off the £50m Phase 2B Premier Inn clinical building and this summer picked up the £65m contract to build a rear diseases research centre after Bouygues failed to negotiate a final price in the two stage bid process. Work will start on this phase 3 project next month, which is due to complete in June 2018. Before these live projects, BAM Construction built phase 2A, the Morgan Stanley Clinical Building. Sweett Group, in conjunction with a small group of consultants, is acting as cost consultant advising GOSH on phase 4.
