Work Detail Mexican authorities will award in the coming week a contract to build a new trolleybus corridor between Chalco municipality in Mexico state and the Santa Martha metro station in southeastern Mexico City. Mexico state’s mass transit and cable car systems authority (SITRAMYTEM), which is in charge of the project, was due to receive bids on Friday and pick a winner on August 26, according to a tender calendar published on the authority’s website. Construction works are scheduled to kick off September 10 and end in December 2022. The calendar states that the winner must draft the executive project; construct terminals, stations, roads, maintenance shops and garages; build viaducts; and take care of the electromechanical equipment. It also specifies that interested participants must have capital of 2.4bn pesos (US$117mn). The communications and transportation ministry (SCT) requested earlier this year 52mn pesos from the finance ministry to carry out nine pre-investment studies for the line from March-August. In its request, SCT explains details of the project, although most of the document is blacked out and labeled as classified. The request can be seen in the finance ministry’s investment portfolio. The project seeks to complement Mexico City’s efforts to improve transport in the Iztapalapa borough, where a cable car line has recently been completed and an elevated trolleybus system will be opened in November. The 20km Chalco-Santa Martha trolleybus line will also follow the same route as a suburban rail line that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador promised to complete before the end of his term in 2024.
