Work Detail The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the civic body of the Indian commercial city of Mumbai, has announced its plans to build a desalination plant with 200MLD capacity per day. This move is done to overcome water shortage in the city, reported LiveMint. The civic body’s standing panel has given in-principal approval to set up the desalination plant as well as for hiring consultants to prepare a project report in detail. According to the BMC, construction of the desalination plant will require an investment of Rs16bn ($296.3m) and Rs19bn ($355.5m) as operational costs for the next two decades. The civic body stated that I.D.E Water Technologies had submitted an unsolicited proposal. This project will be implemented by seeking bids. As per the proposal submitted by the firm, the facility requires 6ha of land and up to 8ha in case the project is expanded. The BMC has identified 12ha of government land at Manori for the project.
