RAS AL KHAIMAH, November 16th, WAM - The Ras Al Khaimah Municipality Department launched the newly developed green public procurement guide during a virtual event. The program will support the adoption of sustainable procurement practices in the emirate for the coming years, starting with government agencies. The launch of the Green Procurement Program comes after the initial steps taken by the government of Ras Al Khaimah in the past years to purchase products and services with a low environmental impact in 2018, as the Environment Protection and Development Authority in Ras Al Khaimah launched the Green Fishing Ports and during the same period the municipality launched Barjeel. The list of green building conditions, and through the building modernization program, more sustainable buildings have been promoted recently. The Public Services Department has also adopted green procurement in many of its projects. His Excellency Munther Mohammed bin Shukr Al Zaabi, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality Department, said that green procurement also means generating demand for green products and services as this will stimulate the growth of the local ecosystem for experienced companies, which will support the economic development of Ras Al Khaimah in the long term, and today we are proud to launch the guide Green Public Procurement in Ras Al Khaimah. Al-Zaabi added that green public procurement will be implemented on an optional basis, and examples of environmental leadership in the government of Ras Al Khaimah will be used, expecting a positive response from government agencies, given their active participation in the design phase of the guide. Green public procurement will include procurement criteria for product categories that are purchased regularly, such as paper, furniture, light vehicles, air conditioning, and home appliances, as the standards are designed to be easily adopted in government tenders.
