Work Detail Last Friday, December 4, the Spanish company Solartia received the International Project of the Year award at Solar & Storage Live, the largest renewable energy event in the United Kingdom, for the Caribbean Pride project: a hybrid microgrid in Corn Island, Nicaragua . This award recognizes the best international solar energy project with energy storage for its impact and development. Located on Corn Island, Nicaragua, a small 12.9-square-kilometer island in the Caribbean Sea, Caribbean Pride is a hybrid microgrid that has improved the quality of life for more than 8,000 people who now enjoy clean and affordable energy. To achieve this, Solartia has built a microgrid that integrates a 2.1 MW photovoltaic plant, a 2.2 MWh energy storage system of lithium ion batteries, 2 backup 900 kW diesel generators, and all of this is self-governing. by the Solartia Hybrid control system to manage energy and meet the demand of the island. The project, framed within the National Program for Sustainable Electrification & Renewable Energy (PNESER) of Nicaragua, was carried out thanks to the cooperation of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) with the Government of Nicaragua. Solartia was selected as the winner from a list of candidate companies with projects that included Emirates Flights, SMA Lidl and Swedens Nilar. In addition to Solartia and Siemens Gamesa - the two winning Spanish companies - agents from the energy sector were also represented worldwide, recognizing the most outstanding projects of the year in the different categories. This award represents the recognition of Solartias work for its engineering quality and its determined commitment to the development of complex, multidisciplinary projects; to the Inter-American Development Bank for its interest in achieving universal access to electricity in the region, and to the Government of Nicaragua for focusing on raising the national electricity coverage index. Solar & Storage Live is an event organized by Terrapin, an international events agency for energy, aviation, pharmaceuticals, finance and education, with locations in Dubai, London, New York, Singapore and Johannesburg. The Solar & Storage Live event brings together more than 150 exhibitors and 250 speakers from around the world, presenting new ways of thinking and innovative partnerships to generate solutions that help drive the energy transition.
