January 8 (Renewables Now) - Israeli energy storage firm Augwind in the last two weeks announced agreements to install 140 MWh of its AirBattery at solar parks at home. Israeli solar developer Solgreen Ltd was awarded 95.6 MW of capacity in the recently completed solar-and-storage tender and selected Augwind as its energy storage partner for a 120-MWh system. A week earlier, Augwind announced it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to install a 20-MWh AirBattery storage system at a 5-MW solar farm to be built by EDF Renewables Israel Ltd. In both cases, the solar projects have 23-year power purchase agreements (PPAs). The overall efficiency of an AirBattery system in commercial projects is expected to reach 75%-81%, Augwind said. The technology does not require any flammable or chemicals materials, just water and air. The compressed air storage specialist added that the technology offers an unlimited number of cycles. Israel awarded 609 MW of solar capacity with 2.4 GWh of storage in the recent tender. The projects have to start delivering power to the national grid by July 2023. |
