Work Detail Construction is expected to start this month on the US$17.32 million Hang Ngoai Bridge revamp in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, formerly called Saigon. The 650m-long bridge, over a rail line, will be widened from 10m to 22.5m, making it a four-lane structure, according to a report in the Saigon Times newspaper. Other works include a new lighting system, a new drainage system and the addition of landscaping. Construction is expected to take 11 months and a temporary iron bridge will be installed alongside to cut down on congestion during renovation work. The revamped bridge should reduce traffic congestion between Pham Van Dong Street and Nguyen Thai Son districts, noted the city’s Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Projects.
