Rapid City, SD Rapid City Stevens High School students starting school next week will be the first to study in a new science wing. This $10 million dollar project started in May of last year and the ribbon was cut this afternoon. The renovation added a total of eight new classrooms and 25-thousand square feet to the building. The classrooms and chemical storage areas are now up-to-date with proper safety equipment and plenty of room for lab activities. Kumar Veluswamy, Rapid City Area Schools facility services manager, says,The old facility they were in did not have the right size classrooms and did not have the right chemical resistant flooring, and it was limiting us from using certain chemicals and doing certain experiments. With this and the chemical resistant flooring, epoxy tops, the open floor plan, the size of the classroom, and the lab space, this takes us to the next level. The addition also benefits other departments - with added classroom and office space and a connection between the fine arts and science wings. |
