The American company Nexant , awarded the contract for the feasibility study of the plant for the production of methanol derivatives - specifically formaldehyde - in Equatorial Guinea, should deliver this work in mid-June 2020, according to the official press release published in the first half of May relating to this contract.
The plant is planned in the industrial complex of Punta Europa, on the island of Bioko, near the capital Malabo.
The contract was awarded to Nexant by the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons and AMPCO .

The formaldehyde plant project is part of the 2020 Investment Year. It was agreed during a hearing in January between the Equatoguinean president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo , the Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima , chairman of the executive board of Marathon Oil Corporation, Lee Tillman and vice president of the American oil company, Mitch Little .
