Work Detail Bane Nor, the railway infrastructure manager in Norway, has announced three tenders for Vestfold line project, with a total value of NOK 2 billion (EUR 180.9 million). The tender is launched as the company wants to support the construction industry. The contracts are part of the construction of a double track on the Drammen – Kobbervikdalen section and of the 270-km track-doubling project in Eastern Norway (Østlandet). The contracts are expected to be signed in the first quarter of 2021 and the works are scheduled to start in spring 2021. “The development division has long worked with the goal of getting these three contracts to the market in the spring of 2020, but with corona crisis now affecting business, we see that this will at the same time be an important contribution to keep activity in the market,” Gorm Frimannslund, the CEO of Bane Nor said. Under the tenders for Vestfold line process, one of the contracts includes the reconstruction of Drammen station, work on the Bybrua station in Drammen as well as some road repairs to prepare the construction phase. The second contract will see track construction and overhead electrification on the railway line. The installation of the electrical and telecommunications infrastructure is another tendered contract for the Drammen – Kobbervikdalen railway section. Currently, the ongoing works are carried out in Drammen, where the station upgrades are performed. In Drammen, the project involves track-doubling works for a 10-km line of which 7 km through the tunnel beneath Strømsåsen. The project is expected to be completed in 2024 when it will provide double capacity between Drammen and Tønsberg allowing up to four trains per hour and direction on the Oslo – Tønsberg route. The Vestfold line project will offer 1.5 million inhabitants increased capacity with more rail services and better punctuality, promoting railways as the most sustainable transport which also contributes to the economic development.
