Work Detail | GARDAÍ IN NORTH Dublin have seized a handgun and ammunition in another successful operation aimed at disrupting the activities of criminal gangs in the capital. The seizure was made yesterday evening by the special task force set up in Dublin to target feuding gangs. Gardaí carried out a search in a car park in the Botanic Avenue area of Dublin and discovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition in a car. The car is also believed to have been seized. Gardaí said no arrests have been made at this time and investigations are ongoing. The operation follows a number of significant seizures in Dublin this week. On Monday, a raid in the Castleknock area resulted in the seizure of a submachine gun and a significant quantity of cocaine. Four houses in South Dublin were also raided on Thursday. Items seized included an Audi A3, €30,000 worth of jewellery, heroin worth €3,000 and some items of stolen property. In Finglas, €190,000 worth of cannabis was discovered, as well as €80,000 in cash. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Detective Superintendent Tony Howard from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, said these seizures were a “significant blow” to organised crime in the Dublin area. |
