Dubai Municipality has revealed that it will build e-gates to playgrounds and pitches in residential neighborhoods across Dubai – which will be accessible using smart cards – in an effort to enhance privacy and safety.
As part of the first stage of this project, the government entity will distribute free smart cards to the residents of 33 areas in the emirate by the end of January 2020.
The smart cards will permit holders to access e-gates at 23 childrens playgrounds; 10 sports grounds for football and basketball; as well as other modern games suitable for all ages.
Commenting on the intitiative, the director of the Customers and Partners Relations Department, Manal Obaid Bin Yaarouf, said: “Each family will get three exclusive free cards from Dubai Municipality to enter the play areas. While using the card, the gate will be open for 9 seconds so that more than one person can enter with a single card, as these gates will provide privacy for the use of the play areas.
Bin Yaarouf added: “It will also enhance the safety and protection of children by not allowing the entry of strangers, and help protect the property and assets of the play areas from tampering by strangers.”
The move is in line with the directives of the Crown Prince of Dubai, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Moham-med bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to meet the needs of all the emirate’s citizens, according to the state-run Dubai Media Office.
The implementation of the e-gate project, and the development of recreational and public facilities, is also part of Dubai Municipality’s aim to build a sustainable city.
“The play areas are also configured to meet the requirements of the People of Determination and achieve all public safety standards, which is one of the main goals in the areas’ design process,” Bin Yaarouf concluded. |
