The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Eng. Falah Al-Amoush, said today, Sunday, that 27 km of the desert road will be completed this month.
The column added that the completion rate on the desert road reached about 75% after opening 246 km in front of traffic in the three parts of the project, including 156 km on the side heading from Aqaba to Amman and 89 km in the opposite direction.
Al-Amoush indicated that the road sections from which three lanes of work were completed are used as traffic diversions and two-way traffic, as the Ministry adopted in the transfers the best international specifications to achieve traffic safety and ensure the flow of traffic.
Al-Amoush described the huge and vital desert road project on one of the most important external roads in the Kingdom, and work is underway on a system of intermittent transfers to avoid closing the road because there is no alternative way to divert the traffic on it.
He pointed out that each shunt does not exceed seven kilometers in length due to the lack of exhaustion of road users and the distance between the shunt and the other is not less than eight kilometers in addition to equipping each shunt at the beginning with concrete barriers and lighting towers at the entrances and exits of the shunt and the development of illuminated traffic lights and ground phosphorous reflectors and lights.
Al-Amoush said: The Ministry approved the plans for traffic diversions after studying them from traffic safety engineers in consulting offices and conducting a physical inspection on the site by the relevant authorities in the Department of Central Traffic and Civil Defense, administrative rulers and the local community. He pointed out that after opening the shunt, it is monitored to ensure its effectiveness and to reinforce safety elements in the event of need. |
