Work Detail Skanska has won a contract to perform an extensive tunneling and excavation project for a wastewater treatment plant to be built underground in Tampere, Finland. The deal with the Tampere Region Central Wastewater Treatment Plant is worth €60mn (about SEK 630mn), which will be included in the Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter 2019. The project consists of excavation works for the processing spaces and sewage tunneling, as well as concrete structures. The new plant will treat wastewater with more modern and efficient technology than existing plants in the region and will also allow remove nitrogen from the water at a larger extent. The plant will serve Tampere as well as several neighbouring municipalities. The project starts in December 2019 and will be completed during the summer of 2022. In many markets, water is regarded as a scarce resource and is recognized as a priority area on the Skanska Color Palette. In 2016, Skanska started collecting water data at the Group level. Skanska is continually working to improve the Group’s water management and reporting. Skanska integrates water-efficient solutions into projects. For example, the Botanica K Residential Development project in the Czech Republic uses an innovative water solution for grey water management. Treated water from washbasins, bathtubs and showers – along with collected rainwater – is used for flushing toilets. This, combined with other water efficiency solutions, reduces potable water consumption by about 40 percent. Skanska is one of the leading development and construction companies in the Nordics, with operations in building construction and civil engineering in Sweden, Norway and Finland, and developing residential and commercial property projects in select home markets. The commercial development stream is also active in Denmark. Skanska had sales of about SEK 67bn and more than 15,500 employees in its Nordic operations during 2018.
