Work Detail | Buy one get one free is standard in supermarkets, but it’s pretty rare in laptops. We’re all used to the "buy one, get one free" concept when we’re shopping for bread or milk. When you’re buying a packet of biscuits it’s a nice but not vital thing to have. When you’re buying technology, though, it’s exceptionally rare, simply because the margins on most tech products are already razor-thin. Microsoft’s latest offer through its online store breaks that rule, however, with the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Signature Edition Laptop on sale at the moment for $1,099. Not a bad price for a laptop even on its own, but what’s exceptional here is that if you buy one through Microsoft’s online store, Microsoft will send you two. Not out of some kind of shipping error, but simply because it is running a buy-one-get-one-free offer on this particular laptop. Buy two for your needs, or one and split the cost with someone else, at which point you’re getting a pretty decent laptop for an effective $549.50. The Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Signature Edition Laptop is a 15.6 inch Windows 10 Home laptop with an AMD A8-7410 2.20 GHz processor, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1TB internal 5400RPM hard drive. Those are solid specifications for most productivity tasks and entertainment purposes, although its 1366 x 768 display isn’t particularly high resolution. This particular model is designated as a "Signature Edition", which means that it doesn’t come with any preinstalled trialware/junkware to endure or remove as you might find on many other laptops. Microsoft also claims that the signature editions of laptops it sells are optimised for faster startup times, and that any signature PC has to meet strict quality standards. Microsoft's two for one deal is available now and finishes on 5 September 2016. |
