Access to safe drinking water and sanitation in rural areas of the Kyrgyz Republic remains minimal. The Naryn program for the development of rural water supply and sanitation will include safe water sources, water storage and purification / disinfection systems; distribution networks in 31 villages included in the program; as well as gender-specific water and sanitation facilities in educational and health facilities. The program will also pilot local solutions (without networks) in sanitation / household sanitation in remote areas.
The program will also strengthen the institutional capacity of local water supply and sanitation enterprises to provide better services, including improving financial management, while at the same time introducing gender-sensitive measures in their activities, including at least 20% of womens participation in these enterprises.
The total cost of the program is $ 32.9 million; the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic contributes $ 5.5 million to the funding. ADB also provides a technical assistance grant (TA) of $ 225 thousand for this program, and it is expected that this TA will be completed by the end of 2026. ADB will also provide an additional grant of $ 2.5 million from the low-cost financing mechanism to support program implementation, including verification of program results.
