GE Power has secured a five-year maintenance contract from the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
The company will provide services and maintenance as the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for a 225MW combined cycle gas-based power plant in Bhola district.

The power plant began operations in 2015 and was designed to address the shortage of reliable power in the island district. The new services contract is expected to increase the availability and utilisation of the assets, which have the capacity to generate enough electricity to power up to 270,000 homes in Bangladesh.
GE Power will service as well as provide spares for two GE 6F.03 gas turbine units located at the power plant.
BPDB chairman Khaled Mahmood said: “To meet the increasing electricity demand in Bangladesh, we are adopting the latest technology to ensure that our power plants continue to generate reliable electricity throughout their life-cycle.
“Our vision is to supply uninterrupted quality power to all, and we need trusted partners like GE to help us realising it.”
Currently, GE has an installed base of nearly 37 gas turbines in Bangladesh. In March 2019, Bangladesh’s independent power producer Summit and GE Power agreed to co-develop a combined cycle gas power plant called Meghaghat II near Dhaka.
GE Power will offer a turnkey solution and will involve in the design, supply, installation and commissioning works for the project. |
