Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE) Canada Rattlesnake, a subsidiary of BHE Canada, has filed a facility application with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for the 117.6MW Rattlesnake Ridge Wind project.
In its filing, the company said it proposes to build the windfarm on about 13,000 acres of land located southwest of Medicine Hat, Alberta, with an investment of C$200m ($152m).
The facility will feature 28 4.2MW wind turbines and have the capacity to generate nearly 475GWh of clean energy annually, which would be sufficient to power 79,000 homes in the region.
BHE Canada Corporate Development vice-president William Christensen said: “Following years of consultation with the community and detailed engineering for the windfarm, we’re excited to submit these applications to the Alberta Utilities Commission for review.
“Rattlesnake Ridge Wind is an outstanding project that brings valuable investment to southeast Alberta and connects a new renewable energy resource to Alberta’s grid without the need for government subsidies, while also providing revenue to participating landowners.”
Additionally, the proposed project will see the construction of a new telecommunications tower within the company’s Rattlesnake Ridge Wind substation.
BHE Canada said that the wind farm’s transmission connection would require less than 150m of new 138KV line and an additional new structure along the existing 138KV line.
Subject to the AUC approval, construction work at the site is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2020 with completion expected by December 2021.
BHE Canada has agreed to pay the full cost of the wind farm and the associated transmission connection. |
