Third phase of electric utility upgrade puts GIS data in display wall
GENEVA – Aldermen voted Monday to approve spending nearly $75,600 to buy an electric utility electronic display wall as part of the Electric Division geographic information system upgrade.
The contract was awarded to Orbis Solutions of Aurora, the lowest of three bids.
Once the display is installed as the third phase of the upgrade project, the Electric Division’s GIS data will be available in electronic form and displayed in the dispatch/supervisory control and data acquisition room, eliminating the need to build and maintain paper switching maps, officials said.
The purchase meets a goal of digitizing the system information and changing the way information is used and displayed for the staff and the public, according to a memo from Manager of Electric Operations Aaron Holton recommending that the contract go to Orbis.
The first phase was to procure a geographical information system or GIS and build a network model, which was completed in 2018, according to Holton’s memo.
This second phase was to integrate an outage management system, which was completed this past spring.
This third phase of a video display wall will allow staff to maintain the electronic model and maps of the electric system in near real time, according to Holton’s memo.
Information from the system will be displayed and modeled as switching and work is performed.
This will reduce time and manpower required to keep the maps updated and increasing the accuracy of outage counts, according to the memo.
It will also give linemen more information regarding outages in a shorter time frame, according to the memo. |
