The Scottish government has published a new cloud procurement framework with 14 providers approved to bid for contracts estimated to be worth £30m.
The cloud procurement framework is part of the Scottish government’s efforts to give access to the public sector organisations and charities operating in the region to IT resources that are hosted locally, are sustainable, and offered by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The new framework marks a continuation of the government’s bid to push public sector organisations to strengthen their datacentres and boost the efficiency of their IT estates in line with its Data Hosting and Datacentre Strategy published in April 2014.
Out of the 14 providers selected for the two-year cloud services framework, half of them are SMEs. The Scottish government said that most of the selected providers host their data within the country and operate datacentres with power usage effectiveness (PUE) rating of under 1.6.
The cloud procurement framework has been designed by the government to give public sector organisations access to public, private and hybrid cloud services, along with migration support and colocation capacity.
The new framework takes over from the government’s four-year Hosting Services Framework. It has also been designed to enable participants to procure a variety of services under a single contract, which otherwise is not possible in G-Cloud and other similar frameworks.
Brightsolid, a cloud and colocation provider based in Aberdeen, is one of the approved suppliers for the cloud services framework. The company, which is also an approved G-Cloud 11 supplier, will provide enterprise, private, public and hybrid cloud solutions and associated services, working collaboratively with organisations to address their IT requirements.
