The river basin of Blšanka, the right-side tributary of the Ohre pod Žatcem, has long been one of the driest in the Czech Republic. Together with the neighboring catchment area of ??the Rakovnický brook in the Berounka River Basin, it is constantly struggling with water shortages in watercourses and thus poor water availability for users (agriculture, industry). Standards are regular bans on water abstraction during the summer. Poor hydrological status also affects the status of groundwater in the area. Poor access to water resources naturally affects development in the Rakovník area. The effort to solve this unfortunate situation is long-term. In recent years it has resulted in the intention to build a set of measures in the Rakovník area, part in the Blšanka basin, part in the Rakovnický brook basin, which will improve the water balance in the area and improve water availability. Government Resolution No. 256 of April 2019 imposes tasks in connection with a comprehensive solution of drought in the area, in the form of technical and nature-related measures. Measures are now being prepared by the state-owned enterprises Povodí Ohre and Povodí Vltavy. “The most important of these planned measures is the Kryry reservoir on the Podvinecký creek in the Blšanka basin. A water reservoir with an estimated total volume of almost 8 million m 3 should be a source of water not only for the Blšanka river basin, but also for the Rakovnický brook basin, ” said Jan Svejkovský, spokesman for the Ohre River Basin. Together with other, smaller reservoirs in the Blšanka basin, it should ensure higher flow rates and be a source of water especially for irrigation. Planned feeders will deliver water from the Kryry reservoir to the Rakovnický and Kolešovický streams, where, with the help of the prepared Senomaty and Šanov water reservoirs, they will provide the necessary amount of water for agricultural irrigation and industry in the Rakovník region. If unfavorable climate change scenarios are fulfilled in the future, it will be necessary to transfer water to the Rakovník area from larger, larger streams - Ohre or Berounka. Along with the preparation of the Kryry waterworks, the Ohre River Basin is preparing the construction of the Mukodela waterworks directly on Blšance.
