Work Detail | With construction on the water main about 10 days behind on Highway NN, traffic congestion will increase when Mukwonago schools start on Sept. 1. The Mukwonago Police Department will be assisting with traffic control during busy times of the day at Clarendon to help keep traffic flowing on Highway NN, according to Curt Wiebelhaus, Mukwonago Area School District supervisor of buildings and grounds. Parents dropping off and picking up kids at Clarendon should enter from the west (off Highway 83) to avoid as much of the construction as possible, Wiebelhaus said. Village officials said that once the water main project on NN is complete the county will be coming in to finish reconstructing the roads, including added curb and gutter, sidewalks and street lights, which will help alleviate traffic concerns once the project is completed. Genesis Excavators, the contractors on the project had some issues arise during the construction of the water main, prolonging the project, which the village had hoped to have had completed before the school year started. "We had not worked with them before but they had good references, construction just did not go well," Village President Fred Winchowky said during an Aug. 16 board meeting. According to village officials the crews are working to get the project completed quickly. Around the first week of September, installation of curb and gutter is anticipated to begin along the Highway NN construction area, according to Wiebelhaus. Mid September is targeted for work on creating two new entrance/exits at Clarendon. One will be directly across from the condo entrance and the other will be between the existing entrance and exit. The new entrance/exits will be created before the old ones are eliminated. Around the third or fourth week of September the road will be closed at the railroad crossing for about two to three weeks. This will be a hard stop, meaning no one will be able to cross the tracks. To get to any business on the east side of the tracks, residents will need to come in from the east. The Highway NN contractor is trying to coordinate with CN Railroad to put in the new curb stop by the tracks at the same time, Village Administrator John Weidl said. Construction crews have begun filling the crossover cut outs with recycled road material, rather than gravel, which will cut down on the potholes and dust in the area. The school district will probably provide updates to parents as work progresses, since the schedule may fluctuate, Wiebelhaus added. |
