Rijeka, Croatia (PortSEurope) July 5, 2019 – Rail construction company SŽ-ŽGP, part of national railways operator Slovenske Železnice, has signed a €31.6 million ($35.53 million) contract for improving Infrastructure in Rijeka Port’s Zagreb Deep Sea Container Terminal (Zagreb DSCT) with Rijeka Port Authority (Lucka uprava Rijeka) and railway infrastructure operator HZ Infrastruktura.
The project includes the reconstruction of the cargo section of Rijeka port’s railway network and the construction of an intermodal terminal at the Zagreb Deep Sea Container Terminal (Zagreb DSCT).
Contract for the execution of works worth HRK 199,402,960.51 was signed by investors Denis Vukorepa, Director of the Rijeka Port Authority, and Ivan Kršic, President of the HŽ Infrastrukture d.o.o. selected contractor, company SŽ – Železniško gradbeno podrucje Ljubljana d.d. represented by Tina Svoljšak.
The grant agreement was signed on 18 November 2016 between the Executive Agency for Innovation and Networking, Rijeka Port Authority and HŽ Infrastructure d.o.o., providing 85% co-financing from the EIU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The total value of the project is €31.6 million, of which the European share is €26.8 million.
Works on reconstruction of the cargo part of the railway station Rijeka and construction of the intermodal terminal at the Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal will be completed in three stages:
Reconstruction of the cargo section of the railway station Rijeka, which includes reconstruction and extension 12 track and drilling, cable duct construction and installation of telecommunication cables, cables power supply and lighting as well as works on the contact grid and works on the bottom line in order to improve load capacity and substrate drainage (investor HŽ Infrastruktura)
Construction of conveyor belt connections and construction of cable ducts in the area of ??reconstructed compound the railway freight terminal Rijeka and the terminal to the existing condition (investor Rijeka Port Authority)
Construction of four tracks of 400 m length on a new part of the container terminal in Zagreb two harbours for portal cranes (investor Lucka uprava Rijeka).
Works will remove the bottleneck and adapt railway infrastructure to Rijeka Railway Station and the construction of an intermodal terminal on the new Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal will enable the improvement of the intermodal infrastructure of the port of Rijeka, relieving transport by modal shift from the road to the railroad and achieving an improved transport connection of the port Rijeka with the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
The project will contribute to the development of the port of Rijeka as one of the main ports on the Mediterranean Trans-European Corridor by achieving high levels efficiency in freight traffic in accordance with modern European interoperability requirements and intermodality. |
