Work Detail MUMBAI: The BMC has once again started the process of procuring a herbal deodorant to be sprayed upon mounds of waste at the citys largest dumping ground in Deonar, which has been operational since 1927. In July 2016, it had similarly tabled a herbal deodorant proposal before the civic standing committee for approval. "That deodorant stock is depleted," said a civic official. Currently, solid waste is dumped at Deonar round the clock. Civic staff said the waste decomposes rapidly and releases gases which emanate a foul smell. In an effort to control the stench, the BMC has once again decided to procur the herbal deodorant at an estimated cost of Rs 30 lakh. On Wednesday, the BMC floated tenders for procuring the deodorant for a period of 200 days. On an average, around 300 litres of this deodorant, which also acts as an insect repellent, are required in a day. Civic officials said the spraying equipment is installed on a tractor. It comes with an inbuilt water tank which has a 500-litre capacity and accessories such as a water pump and a hose pipe to enable uniform spraying.
