Work Detail The Nay Pyi Taw City Development Committee has approved the K250 million (about US$161,000) budget for the construction of a bronze statue of General Aung San in the administrative capital, a committee member said. U Min Thu, the chair of the organising committee for the statue and a member of Nay Pyi Taw City Development Committee, said the statue is expected to be completed on February 13, 2020, the 105th anniversary of General Aung San’s birth. It will be erected at the Thabyay Gone traffic circle, he added. “About K250 million has been allocated for the statue, including experts’ fees for bronze-casting and transportation charges,” said U Min Thu. The rough model of the 5.5-metre high statue is almost completed and it will be soon cast in bronze. Land leveling will be carried out in September this year. Including its plinth, the statue will be 10 metres tall. “There was one donor who was willing to pay for the entire cost of the statue, however, we intend to build the statue with money donated by the public,” U Min Thu said. The Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw Mahn Win Khaing Than, chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council U Myo Aung and the former NLD spokesperson U Win Htein, are currently the patrons of the committee in charge of the project.
