Work Detail The Central African Republic’s Economy minister, Felix Moloua and African Development Bank (AfDB) Representative in the country, Joël Tokindang Sibaye have signed a financing agreement of over CFA16 billion for a project to support the development of agricultural value chains in the savannah.The project, which has a five-year implementation period, involves plant and animal sector development activities and aims to develop value chains for the cassava, maize, rice, bean and beef sectors. It will also introduce technologies to improve the productivity, processing and marketing of agro-food products. The funding will help build the capacity of agro-pastoral institutions such as the National Livestock Development Agency (ANDE), the National Federation of Central African Livestock Producers (FNEC) and the Central African Agricultural Development Agency (ACDA). The Central African Republic has significant agro-ecological and hydrological potential. According to the AfDB representative, the agricultural sector in CAR employs 66 percent of the working population and represents about 23 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Livestock farming is practiced by more than 80 percent of the rural population. The agricultural sector employs 63 percent of poor households and plays a major role in improving food security and reducing poverty in the CAR.
