The Government of Liberia and MBH Power Limited Nigeria have signed a €18.9 million (about US$ 21.6 million) agreement for the design and construction of electricity distribution network in Monrovia and its environs, otherwise known as the Consolidation of Monrovia Electricity Distribution Lot 2.The money was provided to the Government of Liberia by the European Union to address the increasing demand for electricity in various parts of the city which is expected to be implemented by MBH Power Limited.
The installation of the new power distribution network will allow the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to connect additional homes and to increase its customer base to absorb the increase in quantity and provide much cheaper energy expected to be generated by the Mount Coffee Hydro plant.
In remarks during the signing ceremony Thursday at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, EU Deputy Head of Delegation, Juan Antonio Frutos, explained that the project foresees the proper connection of 38,000 households to the national electricity grid.
The EU Head named communities expected to benefit from the project as Peace Island, TB Annex, which runs from Congo Town Back Road to ELWA Junction, GSA Road, Zubah Town, Rehab Road, SKD Sports Complex, Rock Crusher, Liberia Broadcasting System, and German Embassy, among others.
Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel Tweah who signed on behalf of the Liberian government said the Monrovia Consolidation of Electricity Distribution Lot 2 will reduce the issue of power theft in communities in Monrovia.
He expressed gratitude to the EU which, he said, remains one of the trusted partners in Liberia’s development drive, noting: “Electricity and roads remain a major priority in achieving our government’s Pro-Poor Agenda.”

In remarks, the Marketing Manager of MBH Power Limited, Rachit Shah, lauded the Liberian Government for awarding his company the contract to electrify over 30,000 homes across Monrovia under its Monrovia Electricity Distribution Electricity Lot 2 Project.
Shah noted that as a responsible institution, MBH Power Limited is fully aware of the electricity challenges facing Liberia and is committed to making the necessary efforts to complete the work in a
timely manner and with high standard.
