Kuwaits Public Authority for Housing Welfare has awarded two construction and infrastructure contracts worth $210m (KWD60m) for work on the Sabah Al-Ahmad City mega development.
The scope of the first contract includes the construction, implementation, and maintenance of infrastructure, main roads, and secondary power stations in Sabah Al-Ahmad City, a large-scale project that will be home to 250,000 people upon completion.
Located 65km south of Kuwait City in Khiran, the mixed-used megaproject occupies a total land area of 40km² and will be built in numerous phases, with artificial islands constructed by excavating swathes of desert territory.

The second contract covers the construction of 40 residential buildings with 720 apartments.
Kuwaits Public Authority for Housing Welfare revealed it had awarded the two contracts in a tweet on the government bodys official Twitter account on 11 November 2018.
Meanwhile, Kuwaits government has reportedly formed a task force to review damage to Sabah Al-Ahmad City caused by flash floods earlier this month following heavy rainfall.

National newspaper Kuwait Times claim Kuwaits Minister for Housing Affairs and Minister of State Services, Jenan Bushehri, has created teams of technical workers to inspect the construction site to assess damaged building works.
Companies already mobilised on site may have to foot the bill for any repairs that are required, the article added, citing comments from Bushehri. |
