Kochi: Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML) has entered into an agreement with Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) for installation of rooftop solar system for select government buildings.
Installation of solar panels is one of the projects under Smart City Mission with a project cost of Rs 5.7 crore. BHEL is expected to complete the work in six months and there would be an annual maintenance contract for five years.
Road improvement projects under CSML aim to provide a world-class road experience to all users by upgrading the 8.5-km stretch of KV Jacob Road from Veli to Fort Kochi to ‘smart road’ and 43.4km of minor roads to ‘high-quality roads’ within Ernakulam central and west Kochi areas by 2019.
Smart roads project includes upgradation of footpaths, provision for cycle tracks, road markings, street furniture, bus bays, street landscaping, electrical works and shifting of utilities.
As per the existing condition and requirement, other roads will be upgraded with drainage facilities and provision of footpath and surface improvement. Uninterrupted electricity supply with at least 10% of the smart cities’ energy requirement meeting from solar is an essential feature envisaged under the mission.
A stakeholders’ meeting was held in Kochi on Monday to review and discuss the progress of projects proposed by CSML.
CSML managing director A P M Mohammed Hanish made a presentation on each project being implemented.
Issues pertaining to proper drainage system, sewerage system, housing and parking had also been discussed at the meeting.
MP K V Thomas, MLAs Hibi Eden and K J Maxi ,mayor Soumini Jain, deputy mayor T J Vinod, corporation secretary A S Anuja, corporation standing committee chairpersons A B Sabu, P M Harris, Minimol V K , Shiny Mathew, Gracy Joseph and councillors in project implementation areas also attended the meeting.
One of the themes of the Smart City proposal of Kochi is “seamless mobility”.
Major projects proposed by CSML are intergradation of various modes of systems such as road, rail and water transport, promotion of non-motorized transport, bicycle sharing and integrated traffic management system. |
