Work Detail | According to a press release from the Loris Fire Department, the city’s fire department has been awarded a United States Department of Homeland Security FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) in the amount of $333,620 to replace their current 1978 Pierce Ford C-8000 Fire Engine. According to the release from LFD Robert Rudelitch, FEMA will cover 95 percent of the total project funding while only 5 percent, or $16,680, will be matched locally for a total of $350,000 to complete this project. “This new fire engine, once delivered in 2017 will greatly improve operations and safety for the public and firefighters,” said Rudelitch. “The Loris Fire Department would like to thank FEMA and U.S. Congressman Tom Rice for support of this program and improving the Fire and Life Safety of our residents.” In addition to the $676,616 AFG awarded to the Tabor City Fire Department with the assistance of Rudelitch, they have secured over $1,010,236.00 in federal grant funding to assist both fire departments that serve the Tabor Loris Community (TLC) in replacing fire apparatus and saving local funds. According to the website, http://www.fema. gov/assistance-firefighters-grant, the primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. |
