Work Detail Tadweer (Centre of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi), has signed new contracts worth Dh 1.2 billion. Three of them, with Sharjah Environment Company (Bee'ah), Averda Waste Management and Lavajet Abu Dhabi, will provide waste collection and transportation, street sweeping and cleaning services.

Tadweer also signed contracts with Eagle Environment Services and Pest Control, Akar Landscaping Services and Agriculture, as well as Prime Tech Diversified Contracting to provide public health pest control services. The total value of all these contracts is Dh 1,268,803,934.

"Signing these new contracts comes in line with Tadweer's vision of being recognized as a world leader in building sustainable integrated waste management and pest control systems by 2030," said Eisa Saif Al Qubaisi, general manager of Tadweer.

These new projects were signed after reviewing the complaints and suggestions submitted by the residents in various zones of the emirate.

"Contracts worth Dh 1,128,625,934 in total will be spent on collecting and transporting waste, street sweeping and cleaning service," pointed out Al Qubaisi.

Recent studies have classified Abu Dhabi's waste into 16 different types, which helped Tadweer identify different means to collect and transport it.

The Centre hopes to sort the waste at source by providing green bins for recycling and black ones for general waste to residential areas. Over 120,000 bins are planned to be distributed during 2016.

An electronic weighing system will be adopted in waste collection vehicles to determine the amount of waste generated at the source. Each bin will get a unique electronic code provided by a smart chip, which will also enable live tracking for the vehicles, point the bin locations available, display the amount of collected waste and the schedule and dates of service delivery.

Sensors will be used to determine the level of waste in bins placed in locations with regularly high waste production, to avoid any overflowing of waste. In addition, new tunnel cleaning equipment, solar-powered bins, eye-catching bins for children and small stations for sorting will be placed in public areas.

Civic Amenity Centres will be introduced in 20 locations in the emirate's cities, to promote the culture of waste sorting at source since those centres will include further classifications of waste. These points will contain awareness messages and will host various cultural activities, with attractive and environmentally friendly designs covering an area of up to 200 square meters.

The services provided to the farms and stockyards will be increased with the introduction of new collection points and the enhancement of the current ones, designed in a manner to facilitate the entry and exit of waste transporting vehicles and establishing waste sorting centres.

To improve pest control, the PestPAC System will be implemented. This is an online database used to organize and record all control operations included in the contract with Prime Tech.

The operations include all public health pest control requests and their locations. The system also allows scheduling customer requests.

Tadweer is also introducing the Mosquitoes Magnet, a new technique which is characterized by a high capacity to capture blood-sucking insects, especially mosquitoes, by means such as the emission of carbon dioxide and materials that suit the human body in terms of smell and emission of temperatures and humidity, as well as the use of sophisticated green pesticide, which is characterized by long-term effectiveness and an eco-friendly impact.

At least 70 such devices will be installed.
