Work Detail Southern Power has started commercial operations at the 148MW Cactus Flats wind farm in Texas. The project, which is located in Concho County, features 43 Vestas V126-3.45MW turbines. Electricity from Cactus Flats is being sold under two separate power purchase agreements to General Mills and General Motors. Southern Power acquired the wind farm in July 2017 from RES Americas. RES was developer and builder of the site, which created 250 peak construction jobs. Cactus Flats is Southern Power’s fifth wind farm in Texas and brings its total wind portfolio to over 1.6GW. Southern Power president and chief executive Mark Lantrip said: “Cactus Flats highlights Southern Power’s ongoing commitment to the development of wind energy, and we are pleased to see this project achieve commercial operation. “We look forward to supporting our customers’ sustainability efforts through the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable wholesale energy.”
