Work Detail With the winning plan Islands of Hain from area and real estate developer AM, Common Affairs and landscape designer FLUX landscape architecture, Zaanstad will have a first energy-neutral, water-rich residential area with approximately 235 land-based homes. For the realization of the plan, based on the principles of the old villages in the Zaanstreek, there is cooperation with Staatsbosbeheer, so that future residents live fully in nature. Hain Islands, the name refers to the history of the location. t Hain is the name of the archaeological site near the Busch and Dam of what once was a Romanesque watchtower, military settlement or sanctuary. Today, the new residential area is located on the 13.8 hectare site where the sports fields of Provily and Slibkuil were located, on the west side of Krommenie. The design of the landscape is in the hands of FLUX landscape architecture. Model for the plan is the erratic pattern of the old polders from the Zaan region, in which the structure of ditches is still vaguely recognizable. The former sports fields become islands, leaving plenty of room for water. This makes the area completely water-storing. Contemporary, integral and sustainable By working together with Staatsbosbeheer it is possible to give the surrounding nature a physical place even in the surrounding residential areas. On the islands, just like in the old villages, people live and live on the quiet ribbon. Because of the staggered building lines and the diversity of homes, an informal atmosphere arises. Houses sometimes have a deep and sometimes a shallow front garden. This way not only creates a lively image, but the houses are even better oriented towards the sun. The architecture of the houses is contemporary, sustainable and circular, but at the same time deeply rooted in the principles of the oldest houses and barns from the Zaan region. AM has completed the tender in cooperation with Staatsbosbeheer, Common Affairs, FLUX landscape architecture, Arcadis, BAM Energy Systems, Kuijs Reinder Kakes, Van der Tol and Beaumont communication. In the coming period, the parties will start with the further plan preparation and jointly prepare the first participation evening. First publication by Astrid de Wilde on 25 Jul 2018
