New Delhi: Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is investing more than Rs 100 crore on replacing sodium tube lights with LED lights on the streets to save up to 50% of energy.
Rajasthan government has signed the MoU with two companies- Energy Efficiency Service Ltd. (EESL) and ESCO company. Around 2.5 lakh LED lights will be installed around the city. With EESL, the MoU was signed in 2017 and the work was supposed to be completed by July 2018 but it will take another four months to complete the project.
The lights will be installed under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. Hence, EESL and ESCO will install 2.3 lakh LED lights and will maintain them for seven years . AEN Pradip Sharma, handling the project EESL said, “This is being done under the energy saving scheme of the government and after this, JMC will save 50% energy. We are expecting that the entire project shall be completed by December.”
ESCO company signed the MoU with the government in 2014 for installing the LED lights in three phases. The first two phases are complete and the third phase will take around seven months to complete.
Along with this, around Rs 6 - 7 crore will be spent on installing the phase wire in the city. Half of the city does not have phase wires that will help JMC to control the On & Off switch of the lights. The issue of the installation of phase wire was also discussed in the Board meeting of JMC and mayor Ashok Lahoti declared that it will be installed very soon. Officials said that they want the phase wires to be installed as soon as possible or else there will be no point installing the LED lights.
Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has completed the plan to replace all the sodium lights with the LED lights, and to make air conditioners more energy efficient. This will help save 50% of the energy. Officials said that as the JMC is promoting energy efficiency in the city, its own office should not be left out from that. The plan is complete and the tenders will be issued within a month. |
