A court on Monday ordered seven former Bungoma County officials to pay fines or serve jail sentences for breach of procurement laws in the award of a tender for wheelbarrows.
Kakamega Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Muraguri delivered the sentence on behalf of trial magistrate Bildad Ochieng’ who was said to be unwell.
They were accused of breaching procurement rules by awarding a tender to Jagia Enterprise to supply 10 wheelbarrows at Sh109,000 each for a slaughterhouse.
The market price for a wheelbarrow in Bungoma Town is about Sh5,000. The first accused, John Juma Matsanza, who was the accounting officer, was convicted on two counts.
