The T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce (TTCIC) has expressed its satisfaction with the appointment of a Procurement board as well as its members who were appointed in mid-January. The board is led by former President of the TTCIC Moonilal Lalchan who is an Accountant, and its members comprise: David Charlerie, Frederick Bowen, Dr Anthony Lamb, Robin Otway, Herdis Lee Chee, Lara Quentrall Thomas, Sandra Sammy, Nadine Bushell and Nikoli Edwards. The board is expected to have its first meeting on January 24 at a location to be determined. Lalchan is not only serving as chairman of the board, but will operate in the role of the Procurement regulator. In a statement yesterday, TTCIC said, this (the appointment of a board) is a laudable step towards greater transparency and accountability, which in turn creates greater value for money. Now that the board has been appointed the stage is set for the implementation of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Act. The Chamber said it is confident that members of the board are experts in their respective fields and hoped that, they will be provided with the relevant tools to become fully operational as soon as possible. The T&T Chamber is prepared to collaborate with and support all the relevant stakeholders, as we continue to prepare our members, and members of the wider business community to flourish in the new normal. |
