Work Detail ITANAGAR, Dec 16: Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner, Prince Dhawan, inaugurated the Aadhaar-based biometric payment system at Akashdeep Complex here on Saturday. Dhawan said it is the administration’s effort, as part of the Digital India initiative, to ensure that all the market establishments in the Capital Complex have access to a basic biometric device for cashless transaction. Urging the vendors to register themselves with the GeM (Government e-Marketplace) portal to access its benefits, the DC said the government would otherwise be compelled to buy from vendors outside the state, “and that would result in loss of business for the local vendors of the state.” He also informed that the Akashdeep area will shortly be made a “free wi-fi zone.” IT Joint Director, Hano Taka, presented a brief on the GeM portal. “It is a technology-driven platform providing one-stop end-to-end solution, making public procurement transparent and efficient, thereby ensuring faster delivery of goods and services online at a much cheaper rate than in offline procurement,” he explained. Taka informed that the state government is very soon going to make public procurement through the GeM portal mandatory in the Capital Complex. “The help desk of the IT department is always open for the vendors to register themselves,” he added. Itanagar Market Welfare Association President, Yumlam Achung, said the system has been launched with a view to bring transparency in the system of payment, and urged all the vendors to get registered. He also assured all-out cooperation from his end. Lead Bank Manager, Prabhat Rajkhowa, also spoke. (DIPRO)
