| Work Detail | New Balance’s real estate arm will start construction soon on its 295-unit apartment building and the Boston Celtics’ new practice facility in Brighton after publicly christening the Warrior Ice Arena — the Bruins’ new practice and training facility. All three projects are part of Boston Landing, NB Development Group’s 15-acre, mixed-use development that includes the athletic footwear and clothing brand’s new global headquarters. NB Development plans to start foundation work later this month on the Residences at 125 Guest St. — directly across from the company’s new U.S. global flagship store — and has targeted a summer 2018 completion date, according to managing director Jim Halliday. A groundbreaking on the Celtics’ 70,000-square-foot practice and training facility, which will include two parquet basketball courts, is planned for November. NB Development hopes to wrap up that project in June 2018. Boston Landing also is slated to be the site of a track and field complex and a 140,000-square-foot boutique hotel that will include up to 175 rooms. “We would get the residential up and running, and we would get the Celtics up and running, and we’d get those buildings and (the arena) permanently financed, and then we would turn our attention to the track and field and probably the hotel,” Halliday said. Five new eateries also will open at Boston Landing next spring or early summer, including Gloucester-based Beauport Hospitality Group’s 10,000-square-foot, 274-seat Seaport Grill, a casual, upscale restaurant serving contemporary New England food. Halliday would not disclose the names of the other restaurants, but described them as an 8,300-square-foot pizza and bowling concept, a Greek takeout restaurant, a cafe and an approximately 1,600-square-foot juice bar. The Bruins, meanwhile, have a 20-year lease with extension options to use the Warrior Ice Arena, team president Cam Neely and Halliday told the Herald. The arena has 660 seats for the public to watch the team’s practices. “It’s a big investment,” said Neely, who declined to reveal lease terms. “Over the course of a 20-year commitment with Warrior and New Balance — and obviously the location that were in … and the size of the space — you can probably venture a guess that it’s pretty significant.” New Balance also has programmed the arena beyond the Bruins’ ice time. Boston Pride, the National Women’s Hockey League team, will play home games at the arena, and high school and youth hockey teams will use it for practices and games. New Balance also will run learn-to-skate programs and open the rink for public skating. The arena will hold a free open house tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. that will include public skating and a Bruins Fan Fest with players Noel Acciari, Riley Nash, Kevan Miller and Matt Grzelcyk. |
